Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

a. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis from every angle. Their focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure. It was very easy to get a sense of their mission, because they had a clear section of their webpage that talked about their organization and what they do. They use appropriate language for each forum (website, blog, social media, etc.) and has an optimistic tone. The Foundation talks about: cystic fibrosis, genetic disease, research efforts, volunteering, fundraising need, development, the life expectancy of those effected by the disease, and campaigns.

b. Types of writing/media:

  • National website
  • Specific chapter websites
  • Campaign blogs
  • Chapter-specific campaign blogs
  • CFF national Twitter and Facebook
  • CFF Western PA Twitter and Facebook
  • Google +
  • YouTube video
  • Pitt-geared CFF YouTube videos

On the national Facebook page, they share a lot of success stories and stories of those who are battling with the disease, as well as how you can help/volunteer. The local Facebook page has promotional links for upcoming fundraising events, PR efforts, information about volunteer opportunities and information sessions, and videos of supporters and fundraising events. On the local Twitter page, there are a lot of live tweets from different fundraising events and efforts. They use more informal language on their social media pages, and more formal language on their website. The Pittsburgh CFF uses PR services like Constant Contact and are in direct contact with CF families, donors, and volunteers. They might spend a lot of time on newsletters, press releases, logistical documents for fundraisers, event-planning documents, and informational health guidelines. They might not need you to see these documents because it does not pertain to everyone and probably doesn’t further their goal to have you read it. You can get the information they want you to see directly from their website.
