Interview Project Introduction

Interview Project Introduction

For my project, I interviewed psychologist Dr. Stephen Manuck about gene/environment interactions and their affect on developing new treatment options for individuals who suffer from depression. I initially was only going to incorporate sound bites into a written piece, but I have since decided to do an audio essay. There are about four minutes of content here, and I think I’m about halfway done. I’m using Audacity, and I haven’t run into too many issues that I haven’t been able to solve using online tutorials. I’m not sure how to reduce the little bit of background noise though. Hopefully I am able to fix this before the final product is due!

  1. I hope Joe’s expert offered some good tips for you. Like I said in class, I’m not an audio editing genius, and not managing to eliminate the room tone is not the end of the world by any means.

Here’s a pretty good description of noise reduction using Audacity—more detailed than I’d be likely to type out for you: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Detailed_Audacity_Noise_Removal — this may or may not be the procedure you already tried.

They mention using a high pass filter as an option to remove all low frequency sounds, but a low pass filter might help in your case (you may need to play with the settings for awhile).

  2. IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Success with the low pass filter! It’s still there slightly, but it’s way better! Thank you so much!!! 🙂
